2.8 Evaluation of Scholarly Sources

While searching for scholarly articles for my major controversy, I discovered that there were many different articles discussing different aspects of the issue. The first article is titled "INTRODUCTION: AFRICAN AMERICANS, POLICE BRUTALITY, AND THE U.S. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM"  by Clarence Taylor. The purpose of this article was to discuss the growing issue of police brutality against African Americans and what happens after the citizens become incarcerated and released back into the world. The article comes from The Journal for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. More specifically Volume 98, No. 2 Special Issue: "African Americans, Police Brutality, and the U.S. Criminal Justice System: Historical Perspectives in spring of 2013. The audience intended focuses more towards African American citizens. This article discussing race inequality among the criminal justice system was found on JSTOR.
The article "Race, Crime, and Punishment in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries" is written by Cassia Spohn. This article focusses on the differences between races when it comes to crime and how disproportionate the system is when it comes to different races. The article is found within the journal of Crime and Justice and is published by The University of Chicago Press. The article shows different facts between races and how different the statistics of incarcerations are between races. The article is found on JSTOR.
